| Bio: | Unlike most people at family gatherings, I am unafraid to say that I write poetry. The fact that I pay money to the University of Victoria to study and write my manuscript is not intimidating for me. I'm still learning that it's not one sex versus the other. I'm still learning that whatever gets you through the night is NOT necessarily alright, even though I love John Lennon. I held little funerals for Linda McCartney and George Harrison when each of them died. I have little machine autographed Beatle trading cards for each Beatle--and I look at them when things are down. Their ridiculous posing reminds me that it's only an act if I want it to be. I am fascinated with confessional literature, and how everything we do is a form of confession. Check it out: I have always been scared of you, With your Luftwaffe, your gobbledygoo. And your neat moustache And your Aryan eye, bright blue. Panzer-man, panzer-man, O You-- Sylvia Plath's Daddy One dark night, my Tudor Ford climed the hill's skull; I watched for love-cars. Lights turned down, they lay together, hull to hull, where the graveyard shelves on the town.... My mind's not right. Robert Lowell's Skunk Hour As my body sank into the folk-tale Where the wolves are singing in the forest For two babes, who have turned, in their sleep, Into orphans Beside the corpse of their mother. Ted Hughes' Life after Death Bernard mentions the secrecy of the summer of 1964, my father in a sleeveless t-shirt working for movers after the 6:00 to 3:00 shift at the post office, this is the stag on the hill, the beloved, let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth; he's looking up now and there are bird shadows slamming across his cheeks and throat, then later, in his seeing, a dark sucking appears a little to his left, which is not the grave, but a bunching and rucking of emptiness which he feels mostly under his tongue, where he appears to see it best, like memory. This is the war. Tim Lilburn's Kill-site When I say "my father" I might mean the man who came to the hospital two hours late peered into the nursery window and declared me the ugliest baby he'd ever seen or I might mean the God into whose arms I want to crawl on those broken empty-room nights Carla Funk's Disclaimer ![]() I look forward to hearing from you all soon. | |||||
